Lorenzo Lazio and Guiseppe Alioto worked the waters of the Mediterranean enjoying the bountiful catches of fish of all varieties. Leaving Sicily, they both embarked on their own journeys to San Francisco and immersed themselves in the local fishing industry. In 1927, Lorenzo Lazio's son Tom married Alioto's daughter, Annetta. Tom, began working alongside his father at an early age. He traveled to Eureka in 1923 to develop a fish operation off the Humboldt Bay coast.

1940's

In 1940 Tom Lazio formed the "Tom Lazio Fish Company" in Eureka, CA located on Humboldt Bay. His company began shipping fresh and frozen seafood all over the world. Through the years Tom pioneered many important developments in seafood fishing, processing and packing. During W.W.II, most of the fish in the processing plant was frozen and shipped to the US Army. Following the war, the company began custom canning the highest quality, 100% Albacore brought in by his trollers. Only the highest quality fish was picked for the LAZIO label.

In 1961, Tom's son Lawrence entered the family business, taking over management responsibilities. The Tom Lazio Fish Company, Inc. operations initially produced between 4000-5000 cases of Albacore a year, which were sold primarily at a retail counter at "Lazio's Seafood Restaurant". In the mid-60's, Lawrence began developing the mail order business through return customers from the restaurant and an ad campaign in Sunset Magazine.
